Lino Cut Workshop

£75.00

Saturday 27th July 2024: 10am to 4pm
For ages thirteen up. All abilities.

For anyone interested in lino, woodcut and relief printing. No experience of printing necessary. Suitable for beginners, through to experienced printmakers.

This workshop will focus on the production of a two-colour lino print. Using a range of tools, processes and equipment. Transferring a photographic image onto two printing blocks.

On this one-day ‘hands on’ introduction to linocut, you will learn the basics of linocut printing, transposing photographic artwork onto lino blocks before using a range of cutting tools to generate your design. The course is split into two sessions (morning and afternoon) with a one hour break for lunch.

The group (maximum of four people to ensure everyone has an appropriate amount of time on the press) will experiment with a range of mark making exercises using cutting tools to familiarise themselves with the process of linocut.

A range of designs taken from nature will be transferred from paper to printing blocks then printed in two colours. During the printing process we will experiment with mixing ink, using different paper stocks and overlaying the print colours working with a number of different approaches to registration.

We stop printing at 1pm for lunch and reconvene one hour later for the afternoon session. A light lunch with refreshments is provided as part of the workshop.

Guest aprons are provided. Ink can (and does) get everywhere, so please don't wear anything too smart for the workshop.

Please arrive at 9.30 on the morning of the workshop so we have time to introduce ourselves have a tea or coffee before the workshop begins.

Please note: any children under the age of eighteen attending the workshop must be accompanied by an adult
